Former Nigeria Striker Victor Anichebe in Talks to Acquire Bromley FC
The former Premier League player is leading an investment group in negotiations to purchase the struggling League One club.
Former Nigeria international Victor Anichebe is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Bromley Football Club. The 38-year-old is leading a consortium of African investors in discussions with the club's current owner, Robin Stanton-Gleaves, as he seeks to make his first major foray into professional football club ownership.
The potential acquisition comes at a critical juncture for the South London side, known as the Ravens. Following consecutive promotions from the National League in 2024 and League Two last season, the club is currently facing significant challenges in its inaugural League One campaign. Bromley sits at the bottom of the table with only nine points from their first 13 matches and holds the league's worst goal difference.
The club's recent performance struggles led to the departure of long-time manager Andy Woodman on October 22, after five and a half years at the helm. Since Woodman's exit, the team has been unable to secure a victory in three matches, leaving them in the midst of a difficult relegation battle. Observers suggest that new investment could provide the necessary resources and strategic direction for the club to stabilize its position in the third tier of English football.
Anichebe, who retired from professional play in 2018, has transitioned into the business sector with a focus on sports, infrastructure, and healthcare. He is the founder and owner of Lumira Group, an investment firm based in the United Kingdom. His interest in Bromley follows a previous, unsuccessful attempt to acquire the non-league club Gateshead last year.
Beyond his football-related ventures, Anichebe has been active in broader commercial projects, including a reported £20 million leisure development proposal in Liverpool. His business activities reflect a shift from his playing days, during which he logged over 200 Premier League appearances for Everton, West Bromwich Albion, and Sunderland.
Throughout his professional career, which spanned from 2006 to 2017, the striker scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in the Premier League. Internationally, he earned 11 caps for Nigeria and was a member of the U-23 squad that secured a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. If the current negotiations with Stanton-Gleaves are finalized, it would mark a significant milestone in Anichebe’s career as he moves from the pitch to the boardroom.
