Fenerbahce secured its first victory of the UEFA Champions League season by defeating Liverpool 3-2 in Istanbul on Wednesday. The English side entered the match with a flawless record in the competition, having won its opening three fixtures under manager Andoni Iraola. Despite taking the lead twice during the game, Liverpool ultimately suffered its first loss of the European campaign.

Before the match, Fenerbahce striker Romelu Lukaku spoke to TNT Sports about the formidable challenge posed by the English club. The experienced Belgian forward highlighted the quality of Liverpool's midfield and attack, singling out teenager Rio Ngumoha for particular praise. "Offensively they are very good as well. I like Rio. I like him a lot, very direct," Lukaku remarked ahead of the fixture.

Lukaku also touched upon the recent managerial change at the Turkish club following the departure of Ismail Kartal. Expressing gratitude toward his former coach, Lukaku noted that Kartal had been a true club man who always tried to help him integrate. Interim coach Dirk Kuyt took charge of the team for the high-profile European clash against his former club.

The match began with strong pressure from the visitors, and Liverpool broke the deadlock midway through the first half courtesy of Trey Nyoni. However, Fenerbahce responded quickly when a deflected free-kick from Mason Greenwood found the back of the net to equalize before halftime.

In the second half, Liverpool reclaimed the lead when Swedish striker Alexander Isak headed home from close range following an assist by Cody Gakpo. Once again, the Turkish side fought back, drawing level at 2-2 when Archie Brown scored at the far post after a defensive miscue.

Romelu Lukaku started the match and played 63 minutes before being substituted. His replacement, Muriqi, provided the decisive moment of the game by scoring the winning goal, completely unmarked inside the penalty area, to seal a memorable victory for the home side.

The dramatic win gives Fenerbahce its first three points in the Champions League group stage, offering a massive boost to the squad and interim coach Dirk Kuyt. Meanwhile, Liverpool remains on 12 points, looking to regroup as the tournament progresses toward the knockout stages.
