European Campaign Updates for Brighton and Conference League Standings
Recent UEFA Conference League fixtures shape early group standings as clubs begin their continental campaigns.
Brighton & Hove Albion have started their UEFA Conference League league-phase campaign with strong momentum, securing a dominant 4-0 victory over Lithuanian champions Kauno Zalgiris at the Amex Stadium. Head coach Fabian Hurzeler's squad entered the European stage following a successful qualification playoff win over Tromso and solid domestic form in the English Premier League.
The Seagulls previously experienced a challenging European outing in the Czech Republic, where they were held to a goalless draw by Czech side Jablonec in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. Despite dominating possession and pinning the hosts back during the early stages, the Premier League top scorers failed to convert their chances at the Stadion Strelnice.
In other Conference League action, German side Freiburg opened their campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 home victory against Jablonec. Vincenzo Grifo opened the scoring with a brilliant free kick before an own goal and a strike from Maximilian Eggestein secured the three points for the Bundesliga leaders, despite a late goal from Jablonec substitute Garang Kuol.
Following these opening fixtures, the early league-phase standings have begun to take shape across the competition. Freiburg sits seventh in the standings with three points from their opening match, while Jablonec finds themselves placed joint 23rd in the table without a point after facing tough German and English opposition.
Brighton's participation in the tournament marks a historic phase for the club as they navigate a demanding schedule of six league-phase matches against different opponents, split evenly between home and away fixtures. Under the current format, the top eight sides in the table automatically qualify for the round of 16.
Teams finishing between ninth and 24th in the league phase will compete in a two-legged knockout playoff to reach the last 16 of the competition. Meanwhile, any clubs finishing 25th or lower will be eliminated from European competition for the remainder of the season.
As the tournament progresses, teams across the continent continue to balance their domestic league commitments with the demanding physical toll of mid-week European fixtures. With matches scheduled across various territories, clubs are carefully managing player workloads and squad rotations to maintain their standing both domestically and abroad.
