Bayern Munich earned a hard-fought 3-1 away victory against Freiburg at the Europa-Park Stadion, moving past Borussia Dortmund to claim the top spot in the Bundesliga standings. Playing amidst a period of concern following the health situation of manager Vincent Kompany, the visitors managed to secure the crucial three points despite managing seven squad absences.

The match began with Freiburg pressing high and attempting to disrupt Bayern's rhythm. However, the Bavarian squad struck first in the 16th minute when defender Dayot Upamecano capitalized on a set piece to put the visitors ahead. Upamecano had earlier blocked a shot from Eren Dinkçi's teammate before converting his chance to break the deadlock.

As the first half drew to a close, Bayern doubled their lead. In the 42nd minute, Serge Gnabry utilized a run behind the defensive line to receive a pass and slotted the ball under goalkeeper Noah Atubolu's equivalent, Noah Backhaus, sending the visitors into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

The second half brought increased intensity from the home side. Freiburg pushed forward and began to test Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who was forced into several crucial saves, including stopping attempts from Noah Weißhaupt and testing efforts from Igor Matanović after tactical substitutions injected fresh energy into the home lineup.

Tension mounted in the 82nd minute when Bayern midfielder Tom Bischof inadvertently turned a cross from Patrick Osterhage's colleague into his own net, cutting Freiburg's deficit to 1-2. The unexpected own goal sparked a wave of late pressure from the hosts, who sought an equalizer in the closing minutes.

In the frantic final moments of stoppage time, Urbig made a vital save following a corner kick to deny Matthias Ginter. Immediately after, Michael Olise sealed the result in the 90+5th minute by capitalizing on a defensive clearance error on a counterattack, calmly slotting the ball into an empty net to make it 3-1.

With the victory, Bayern Munich reaches 17 points, surpassing Borussia Dortmund on goal difference to take first place in the Bundesliga. Despite the defeat, Freiburg maintains its position in the top three of the league standings with 13 points, having proven a formidable opponent throughout the intense fixture.
