England faced a difficult beginning in their one-day international tri-series across Pakistan, dropping their opening matches as teams prepare for upcoming international tournaments. Harry Brook's squad is looking to regroup after encountering severe challenges on the field, including a heavy defeat against Pakistan and a historic, high-scoring thriller against Sri Lanka.

In their opening match in Rawalpindi, England suffered an 87-run defeat against Pakistan. Despite a strong 91-run opening stand between Tom Banton and Ben Duckett, the team collapsed following an exceptional performance by Arafat Minhas. Minhas claimed a career-best 6-40, dismantling England's batting order and sealing the win with a crucial run out as England were bowled out for 214.

During that match, Joe Root contributed 33 runs and Sam Curran added 27 during a brief rebuilding phase against Pakistan's spinners. However, England's lower order could not sustain the momentum after facing sustained pressure from the home side's bowling attack.

England's struggles continued in an extraordinary encounter against Sri Lanka, where they failed to defend a massive total of 429-4. Captain Harry Brook led the charge with a historic, unbeaten double century of 202 runs from 116 balls, becoming the first Englishman to score an ODI double century while setting the record for the fastest in the format.

Supporting Brook's masterclass were strong contributions from Joe Root with 69 runs, Will Jacks with 66, and Tom Banton with 50. Despite putting up a colossal total, England's bowling attack struggled significantly under pressure.

Sri Lanka successfully executed the second-highest run chase in ODI history, reaching the target of 430 with two wickets to spare and just one ball remaining. Pavan Rathnayake anchored the innings with a brilliant 130 runs, while Dasun Shanaka added a rapid 97.

England's bowlers faced heavy punishment during the record-breaking chase. Sam Curran conceded 103 runs in his nine overs, while Josh Tongue picked up three wickets while giving up 79 runs. Sri Lanka ultimately secured the victory in the final over, leaving England winless in the tri-series standings alongside Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
