Sir David Attenborough is back on television screens with the release of the groundbreaking nature docuseries Blue Planet III. Marking twenty-five years since the debut of the original series, the new installment brings viewers unprecedented footage of marine life captured over a four-year production period.

The six-part documentary utilizes advanced filmmaking technology, including splash drones, remote underwater cameras, and submerged domes, to record behaviors and locations previously impossible to capture. Filming took place across every continent and ocean, ranging from Japanese rock pools to Antarctic research stations.

Reflecting on his return to the franchise, Attenborough noted that narrating a third series in his centennial year was unexpected. "Twenty-five years ago, when I narrated the first Blue Planet series, it didn't occur to me that I would be narrating a third series in my centennial year," he stated, adding that the ocean remains an endlessly fascinating place filled with sophisticated and surprising underwater life.

Each episode of the series focuses on different marine environments. The first three episodes cover tropical seas, the open ocean, and seasonal seas, highlighting how various creatures adapt to challenging conditions, such as sea lions hunting swans or whales seeking sheltered breeding bays. Subsequent episodes explore polar waters, the deep ocean, and the future of marine ecosystems.

The final episode of the season addresses ongoing environmental challenges by spending time with scientists, conservationists, and local communities working to combat issues like overfishing and protecting critical breeding grounds. Additionally, the final ten to fifteen minutes of each episode feature behind-the-scenes segments detailing the production process.

The series also boasts a notable musical collaboration for its title track, titled "Into The Deep (Seas Cry)." The song was written by singer-songwriter JADE, Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, and Thom Lukas of Bleeding Fingers Music. Zimmer also provided the sweeping score for the entire docuseries.

In the United Kingdom, the series premiered on BBC One and became available on BBC iPlayer. Viewers in the United States will be able to watch the program starting January 23, 2027, on BBC America and AMC+. Meanwhile, plans for a live orchestral tour titled Blue Planet III Live in Concert are scheduled to launch in the UK in 2027, featuring footage projected onto a massive Ultra HD LED screen accompanied by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
