Costco Expands Nationwide Delivery Partnership With Uber Eats and DoorDash
The wholesale giant is scaling up its same-day delivery choices to capture younger demographics and increase digital sales.
Costco Wholesale Corporation is significantly expanding its same-day delivery capabilities across the United States by scaling up partnerships with major delivery platforms like DoorDash and Uber Eats. During its fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings call, management announced that its collaboration with Uber Eats has grown from 17 states to nationwide coverage, alongside the broader rollout of the DoorDash service.
These newer delivery options complement Costco's already established delivery collaboration with Instacart in both the United States and Canada. Company leadership addressed whether faster ordering options might cannibalize traditional physical store visits or merely shift sales, noting that marketplace purchases have been largely incremental with limited disruption to core warehouse grocery operations.
Management highlighted that consumers frequently utilize delivery channels for quick fill-in purchases while maintaining their routine warehouse shopping trips. Furthermore, different digital platforms tend to attract different shoppers, with users of the newer marketplaces skewing considerably younger than Costco's traditional member base.
Convenience remains a primary driver for these digital initiatives, with average delivery times across all three platforms staying under an hour. Leaders reported that most same-day orders can be completed within 45 minutes when requested, covering a diverse range of products from household groceries to pharmacy prescriptions.
Strong demand for convenient purchasing channels propelled digitally enabled sales past $33 billion in fiscal 2026, marking a growth rate exceeding 20 percent. This upward momentum continued into September with a 19 percent rise in digital sales, reinforcing leadership's belief that broadening accessibility through third-party apps captures new shopping occasions without requiring customers to visit physical warehouses.
Meanwhile, broader retail competition in fast delivery continues to intensify across the domestic market. Walmart Inc. reported robust e-commerce growth during the second quarter of fiscal 2027, driven by a sharp increase in store-fulfilled deliveries and sub-30-minute delivery expansions into dozens of U.S. markets.
Target Corporation is similarly leveraging same-day fulfillment to bolster digital revenue, reporting significant growth in digital comparable sales led by same-day delivery services. As major retailers invest heavily in rapid shipping and omnichannel capabilities, traditional brick-and-mortar stores and digital platforms are increasingly converging to capture consumer spending.
