Colorado Buffaloes Prepare for Arizona State After Ending Losing Streak
Head coach Deion Sanders confirmed that running back Richard Young will retain his starting role following a standout performance against Kansas State.
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders addressed the media during his press conference to preview his team's upcoming Week 10 matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Buffaloes head into the game looking to build momentum after snapping a five-and-game losing streak with a dramatic 27-24 overtime victory over Kansas State.
Sanders confirmed that running back Richard Young will earn his second consecutive start after capitalizing on an expanded workload due to Micah Welch's injury. Young carried the ball 24 times against Kansas State, helping Colorado rack up 222 rushing yards and secure its first Big 12 victory of the season. Sanders praised the Alabama transfer for his patience and preparation while waiting for his opportunity.
"Richard runs hard, works hard, prepares, studies, does not miss anything, is not on anybody's list, and he hasn't had a pity party," Sanders said of the running back. "He proved that he's more than worthy."
The strong rushing performance provided vital support for quarterback Isaac Wilson, who completed his first interception-free start after throwing seven picks over his previous three games. Sanders noted that Wilson is showing significant growth by playing within himself and benefiting from a balanced offensive attack that forces opponents to respect the run.
Entering the contest in Tempe, Colorado stands at 3-5 overall and 1-4 in Big 12 play, while Arizona State sits at 4-4 overall after a 27-20 loss to BYU. Despite their current record, Sanders expressed strong confidence in the resilience of his players and coaching staff as they push through the remainder of the season.
"I know we don't have the record that we desire to possess, but these guys are not giving up," Sanders said. "They don't have that DNA in them to give up and to quit."
