Cherif Millogo Commits to Kentucky as Tallest Player in Program History
The elite five-star center from the Class of 2027 chose the Wildcats over several major programs.
The Kentucky men's basketball program secured a historic commitment on Wednesday when five-star center Cherif Millogo announced his decision to play for the Wildcats. Millogo, who attends St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge, California, is listed between 7-foot-4 and 7-foot-5 depending on the recruiting database, making him the tallest player in the storied history of the Kentucky program. He surpasses Shagari Alleyne, who stood at 7-foot-3.
Originally from Burkina Faso, Millogo moved to the United States to pursue his basketball dreams, facing significant sacrifices and leaving his family behind. He currently lives with his legal guardian, former UCLA player and NBA veteran Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. Despite not playing during the spring or summer circuit, Millogo remained a heavily pursued prospect, ultimately choosing Kentucky over offers from North Carolina, Texas, USC, BYU, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, and Tennessee.
Head coach Mark Pope and his coaching staff maintained consistent pursuit throughout his recruitment, a factor that heavily influenced Millogo's choice. "I went on the visit there and I saw how they use their bigs for playmaking, the shooting, the defense, how they play their bigs in pick-and-roll situations, so I feel like this is a good basketball decision for me," Millogo told 247Sports. He specifically credited assistant coaches Mikhail McLean and Mo Williams for believing in him since he was unranked.
Recruiting analysts describe the towering big man as an extraordinary talent with massive upside. Jack Pilgrim of On3.com evaluated Millogo as "the most physically imposing big man in the country, agile for his size and capable of knocking down jump shots, but also an impossible load to handle in the frontcourt." Boasting a 7-foot-8 wingspan, Millogo is recognized as a fierce rim protector who will look to further refine his strength, conditioning, and game reps upon arriving in Lexington.
Ranked as the No. 6 center in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite, Millogo represents Pope's highest-ranked recruit since taking over the Wildcats. Depending on the service, he is positioned as a top-30 overall prospect nationally and the No. 2 player in the state of California.
Millogo becomes the second commitment for Kentucky's 2027 recruiting class, joining five-star small forward Ryan Hampton out of Texas. The talented young duo provides a strong foundation for the future as Pope continues building the program following back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in his first two seasons.
