No. 4 UConn Men Open Season With 86-46 Win Over Gardner-Webb

The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team began its quest for a national championship in commanding fashion on Monday evening, securing an 86-46 victory against Gardner-Webb in Hartford, Connecticut.

Braylon Mullins led the Huskies in scoring with 20 points, while teammate Na'Jai Hines pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Silas Demary Jr. orchestrated the offense effectively, tallying a team-best eight assists.

UConn's defense stifled the Runnin' Bulldogs throughout the contest, limiting them to a meager 26 percent shooting percentage from the field and forcing 17 turnovers. Headed by head coach Jeremy Luther, Gardner-Webb faced a tough test on the road to begin a challenging early schedule that also features a visit to Texas.

Following the opening night success, the Huskies turn their attention toward a marquee matchup in Boston. UConn will travel to TD Garden for a Friday night showdown against the defending national champions, No. 16 Michigan, as part of the Hall of Fame Series.

The upcoming game serves as a high-profile rematch of last spring's national championship game, where Michigan defeated UConn 69-63 in Indianapolis. Both squads enter the early-season clash with different rosters following significant personnel changes, including Michigan's offseason departures to the NBA and the arrival of new head coach Mike Boynton.

Tipoff for Friday's rematch between UConn and Michigan at TD Garden is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with national television coverage provided on TNT. The contest marks a critical early test for both top-tier programs as they navigate rigorous nonconference schedules.
