Chef and Product Developer Sebastian Lege Returns with New Culinary Series
The new season features five episodes exploring global classics, unconventional laboratory equipment, and stricter judging criteria.
Chef and product developer Sebastian Lege has returned to television screens with a new season of his culinary program on VOX, offering viewers a deep dive into the preparation and refinement of traditional dishes. The series kicked off with five new episodes focusing on kitchen classics such as goulash, hot dogs, ice cream, and fried chicken.
Throughout the production, Lege combines culinary travels with hands-on experiments involving ingredients, preparation methods, and flavor profiles. His journey takes him to various international locations, including an ice-cream university in Bologna, as well as stops in Budapest, Copenhagen, and the vibrant street food scene in Korea.
Rather than simply observing finished meals, Lege examines the specific ingredients and labor-intensive steps that define authentic flavors. By speaking with professional chefs and studying their techniques, he gathers inspiration to develop his own innovative variations on classic recipes.
Upon returning to his laboratory workspace, known as the Lege-Lab, the chef utilizes both traditional kitchen tools and advanced scientific equipment to execute his creative concepts. His experimental setup includes the use of liquid nitrogen and a mobile forge capable of reaching temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees.
For his goulash experimentation, Lege focuses heavily on meat aging processes and roasting techniques, alongside various sweet, smoky, and spicy pepper varieties. These meticulous research and development phases ultimately transform traditional concepts into entirely new recipes.
To validate his culinary creations, Lege must face a panel of judges under newly heightened standards. To successfully pass each episode's primary challenge, he is required to secure at least 18 out of 24 possible votes, establishing a strict three-quarters majority requirement.
In addition to his traditional recipe adaptations, the final episode of the current season features Lege and his team investigating ten popular food trends originating from social media platforms. Rather than concentrating on a single dish, this special installment evaluates various snacks that have captured widespread online attention.
Looking ahead to future developments, Sebastian Lege is scheduled to begin an exclusive partnership with RTL Deutschland starting in January 2027. Alongside his ongoing work for VOX, this future agreement includes plans for additional prime-time broadcasting projects.
