Carlos Augusto Secures Inter's First Champions League Win Over Shakhtar

Inter Milan secured their first victory of the UEFA Champions League season on Wednesday, defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 at the Stadio San Siro. Despite struggling for momentum during the opening half, the Italian side found a breakthrough late in the match to claim three crucial points in the tournament's league phase.

The turning point for Inter arrived after defender Alessandro Bastoni received two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving his team to play with ten men for the final 25 minutes. Rather than destabilizing the squad, the red card seemed to spark new life into the Nerazzurri.

Substitute Henrikh Mkhitaryan orchestrated the game-winning sequence from midfield, delivering a precise pass to Carlos Augusto. The versatile player chested down the ball and flicked a finish past the on-rushing goalkeeper to break the deadlock. Piotr Zielinski also contributed to the build-up by initiating the decisive movement.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Italia after the match, Carlos Augusto emphasized the team's collective effort under pressure. 'It was an important goal, as Shakhtar Donetsk are a really good team, they pass it around well, but I have to credit my teammates, as it was not easy to play down to 10 men and we showed how much we wanted this victory,' he stated.

The match required tactical adjustments from Carlos Augusto, who began the contest on the left side of a three-man defense before transitioning into the left wing-back position to replace Federico Dimarco. Reflecting on the atmosphere and the significance of the result, he added that the squad needed the victory badly following earlier losses in the competition.

Inter entered the fixture under intense pressure following defeats in their opening two Champions League matches against Real Madrid and Club Brugge. Across European competitions, the Italian club had struggled heavily prior to Wednesday evening, losing seven out of their previous eight games in the tournament.

Following the hard-fought triumph, Carlos Augusto dedicated the victory to his teammate Bastoni, acknowledging that the opponents had tried to provoke fouls. The team hopes to use the resilience shown against Shakhtar as a springboard to maintain positive momentum in the remaining European fixtures.
