The upcoming fixture arrives as J-League clubs make a strong impression in the early stages of the tournament. Following the conclusion of the third matchday on October 27 and 28, Japanese teams occupied the top positions in the ACLE standings.

Kashima Antlers enters the upcoming phase following a successful run that includes an undefeated three-match winning streak in the league phase. During their third matchday encounter against South Korea's Pohang Steelers at home, Kashima secured a comfortable victory by scoring three goals in the second half, despite suffering an early setback when defender Rikuto Hirose was forced off due to an injury in the ninth minute.

Alongside Kashima, Vissel Kobe also maintained a flawless record with three consecutive wins after defeating Daejeon Hana Citizen away, courtesy of a late winning goal by forward Ren Komatsu in the 83rd minute.

Other Japanese sides have also shown competitive form in the continental tournament. Gamba Osaka secured a draw against Thailand's Buriram United after forward Takashi Usami scored a direct free kick in the 21st minute of the second half, helping Gamba maintain an unbeaten run and place third in the standings.

Meanwhile, Kyoto Sanga F.C. delivered a strong performance against Australia's Newcastle Jets, overcoming a two-goal deficit to win 5-2 thanks to goals from Marco Tulio, Rafael Elias, and Alex Souza, placing them sixth in the table. Kashiwa Reysol sits in seventh place with four points after a scoreless draw away against Thailand's Ratchaburi FC.

With Japanese teams holding strong positions near the top of the standings after three matchdays, the upcoming clash between Buriram United and Kashima Antlers holds significant importance for the progression of the tournament's league stage.
