Braelon Allen Sets Career High in Jets' 38-33 Loss to Raiders
Running back Braelon Allen rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown, but the New York Jets blew a nine-point halftime lead against Las Vegas.
Running back Braelon Allen delivered a career-best performance on Sunday, rushing 21 times for 147 yards and a touchdown, though the New York Jets ultimately fell 38-33 to the Las Vegas Raiders. Making his fifth consecutive start in place of the injured Breece Hall, who was sidelined due to a quad injury, Allen also contributed two receptions for six yards.
Allen's standout afternoon featured a 21-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter that extended the Jets' lead to 30-21. Breaking outside untouched, the running back showcased his speed and vision before finding the end zone. The performance marked Allen's fourth consecutive game exceeding 100 scrimmage yards.
Despite Allen's efforts, the Jets dropped to 2-6 on the season after a sharp momentum shift in the second half. New York capitalized on its early possessions, scoring on its first six drives of the game to build a 23-14 lead by halftime. Former Raiders quarterback Geno Smith orchestrated the offense efficiently, completing 20 of 32 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns.
The Raiders, however, turned the tide after the break by tightening their defense and executing on offense. Quarterback Kirk Cousins finished the game completing 19 of 26 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns, while also punching in a 1-yard rushing score. Tight end Brock Bowers caught two touchdown passes for Las Vegas, and rookie Mike Washington Jr. added steady yardage on the ground with 83 yards.
Las Vegas secured the comeback victory late in the fourth quarter. Following a 31-yard field goal by Jason Sanders that narrowed the gap to 33-35, the Raiders milked the clock and added a 53-yard field goal from Matt Gay with 31 seconds remaining. On the game's final play, a desperation heave by Smith into the end zone was intercepted by Jeremy Chinn, cementing the Raiders' 4-4 record and snapping their four-game losing streak.
Looking ahead, the Jets face uncertainty regarding their backfield as they prepare to travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. If Breece Hall recovers from his quadriceps injury, the team may utilize a backfield committee featuring both Hall and Allen.
