Bayern Munich delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, cruising to a 6-1 victory over second-division side FC Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal. Despite missing head coach Vincent Kompany and resting star striker Harry Kane, the Bavarians controlled the match from start to finish under the guidance of assistant coach Aaron Danks.

The home side opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Michael Olise finished a setup from Ismael Saibari. Magdeburg quickly responded four minutes later capitalizing on a counterattack, as Mateusz Żukowski's long-distance shot deflected off Hiroki Itō to beat goalkeeper Jonas Urbig and tie the game at 1-1.

Bayern quickly regained control before halftime. Saibari put the hosts back in front in the 21st minute with an assist from Olise. Following the interval, Alphonso Davies drew a penalty that Olise converted to extend the lead to 3-1. Further goals from Davies, Nathaniel Brown, and a late strike by David Santos Daiber sealed the 6-1 rout.

The match served as crucial preparation for Bayern as they look ahead to a high-stakes Bundesliga Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund coach Niko Kovac recently praised Harry Kane, calling the newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner a sensational talent who has elevated his game since arriving in Germany in 2023.

Kovac emphasized that stopping Kane on Saturday will require a collective team effort rather than individual defending. Dortmund travels to Munich level on points at the top of the Bundesliga standings, though they remain winless in their last five matches against Bayern since 2024.

Meanwhile, Bayern continues to manage personnel matters off the pitch. Board member for sport Max Eberl recently provided a positive update on head coach Vincent Kompany, confirming that the Belgian had been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for meningeal irritation, alongside battling a viral infection and a hip injury.
