Bayern Munich advanced to the DFB-Pokal round of 16 with a dominant 6-1 victory over second-tier side 1. FC Magdeburg on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena. Led by assistant coach Aaron Danks, the Bavarians overcame a spirited start from the visitors to produce a commanding second-half display that sent Magdeburg out of the German cup competition.

The match arrived amid notable developments off the pitch for the reigning cup holders. Fresh off receiving the Ballon d'Or just two days earlier as the world's best player, Harry Kane was given a rest on the substitute bench ahead of the upcoming showdown against Borussia Dortmund. Bayern was also without head coach Vincent Kompany on the sideline, though sporting director Max Eberl delivered encouraging news before kickoff by announcing that Kompany had been released from the hospital following a diagnosis of meningitis.

Bayern took the lead in the 10th minute through a slick combination in attack. Young playmaker Lennart Karl fed a precise pass through to Ismael Saibari, who squared the ball across the box for Michael Olise to tap into an empty net. However, Magdeburg, coming off their own 6-1 league win over Karlsruher SC, refused to back down in front of more than 7,500 traveling supporters. Just five minutes later, Bayern loanee Felipe Chavez carried the ball forward on a counterattack and found Mateusz Zukowski, whose deflected strike beat goalkeeper Jonas Urbig to tie the score at 1-1.

The hosts quickly regrouped and restored their advantage in the 21st minute. Reversing their roles from the opening goal, Olise picked out Saibari, who calmly lifted the ball over Magdeburg goalkeeper Dominik Reimann to make it 2-1. Magdeburg nearly struck back right before the break, but Baris Atik saw his curling effort rattle off the post in first-half stoppage time, with Urbig reacting quickly to deny Chavez on the rebound.

Any hopes of an upset vanished shortly after the interval. In the 50th minute, Magdeburg defender Pierre Nadjombe pulled Alphonso Davies down by the arm inside the penalty box, prompting referee Harm Osmers to award a penalty. Olise stepped up in place of regular taker Kane and coolly dispatched the spot kick to register his second goal of the night and stretch Bayern's lead to 3-1.

From that point forward, Bayern took complete control of the contest. Karl continued his stellar playmaking display in the 70th minute by setting up Davies, who finished cleanly to extend the margin. Only three minutes later, Karl initiated another attacking move with an outside-of-the-boot pass, allowing Davies to square the ball to Nathaniel Brown, who surged into the center of the box to score Bayern's fifth.

Bayern capped the rout in the fourth minute of stoppage time when 19-year-old David Santos Daiber found the back of the net to seal the 6-1 result. The victory maintained Bayern's prolific scoring form under Danks, securing their spot in the next round of the competition while offering positive momentum ahead of their high-profile league clash this weekend.
