Armored Core VI Weapon Inspired Ballpoint Pen Announced by Bandai
The PB-033M Ashmead pile bunker from the game is being adapted into a mechanical ballpoint pen with a lighted display stand.
Bandai Fashion Collection has announced the upcoming release of a ballpoint pen modeled after the PB-033M Ashmead pile bunker from the action shooter game Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon. Pre-orders for the unique collectible item opened on October 30, with scheduled shipping expected in May 2027.
Developed by FromSoftware, Armored Core VI marked a major return for the storied mecha franchise after a ten-year hiatus. In the game, players take on the role of an independent mercenary known as Raven, navigating a conflict on the remote planet Rubicon 3 over a valuable energy resource called Coral. Throughout the campaign, players build and customize their own mechs using a wide variety of parts and armaments.
Among the game's recognizable weapons is the PB-033M Ashmead, a left-arm pile bunker developed by the fictional corporation Balam Industries. The weapon gained significant attention after being prominently featured in the game's reveal trailer at the end of 2022. While challenging to use effectively in combat due to precise positioning requirements, landing a direct hit with the pile bunker delivers massive damage to opponents.
The newly unveiled ballpoint pen measures approximately 6.3 inches long and reimagines the in-game weapon with a weighty metallic finish and detailed outer armor. The writing instrument itself forms the steel spike of the Ashmead. Pressing the top of the pen to extend the writing tip activates a linked mechanical action that deploys the surrounding armor, recreating the weapon's in-game transformation.
In addition to the pen itself, the set includes a custom storage stand and a branded memo pad featuring the Balam Industries logo. The stand is sculpted to resemble an armored weapon hangar with fine mechanical details. Powered by a USB Type-C connection, the stand features built-in LED lighting and a touch sensor that allows users to cycle through three brightness levels.
The complete set is priced at 17,600 yen, including tax. The item is currently available as a Premium Bandai release, sparking discussion among fans regarding its timing and regional availability given the global audience of the game.
Although the bulky armor design might make extended writing sessions unconventional, the collectible serves as a detailed replica for fans of the mecha franchise. Pre-orders are currently live on the official Bandai platform ahead of its planned delivery in 2027.
