Orlando City superstar Antoine Griezmann has been awarded the AT&T Goal of the Matchday for Matchday 33 in Major League Soccer. The French FIFA World Cup winner secured 36.2 percent of the fan vote following his remarkable long-range strike during a 2-2 road draw against Chicago Fire FC.

Griezmann joined Orlando City mid-season after transferring from Atlético de Madrid. Since arriving in Florida, the veteran forward has made a profound impact on the team and the league. In his first 21 appearances, he has recorded 15 goals and 7 assists, proving to be a decisive factor nearly every time he steps onto the pitch.

His recent performance against Chicago showcased the technical ability that defined his illustrious career in Europe. Described by observers as a casual thunderbolt from 30 yards out, the goal highlighted his enduring quality. Aside from Lionel Messi, few players in the league have matched his level of production since his arrival in North America.

The former Atlético de Madrid star has brought immense joy to supporters watching from the stands in Orlando. Analysts note that his impact on the club is historic, comparing his talent level favorably to the greatest players in the team's history. His current contract runs until 2028, by which point he will be 38 years old, leaving open the possibility of future extensions.

Meanwhile, Major League Soccer announced a major organizational shift that will affect players accustomed to European schedules. The league will abandon its traditional February-to-December calendar starting in July 2027, moving to a European-style schedule where a full season runs from July through May. The change aims to align the United States competition more closely with international football markets and transfer windows.

To bridge the gap between the 2026 season and the new calendar, MLS will stage a transitional tournament from February to May 2027. All 30 teams will participate in the short competition, playing 14 matches before a knockout stage concludes with a final on Memorial Day weekend. This restructuring is expected to provide a familiar operational rhythm for prominent international stars currently playing in the United States, including Griezmann, Messi, and Robert Lewandowski.
