Inter Miami saw its three-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday night following a 2-0 defeat against the New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Despite holding a dominant 62.5 percent of possession throughout the regular-season Major League Soccer fixture, the visitors struggled to generate concrete scoring opportunities and failed to overcome a disastrous start.

The match took an immediate downward turn for the Florida club in the seventh minute. During a defensive sequence, Inter Miami defender Casemiro inadvertently redirected a cross from Cade Cowell past his own goalkeeper, handing the home side an early advantage with an own goal. The miscue exposed the visiting backline and set the tone for a frustrating evening.

Head coach Cristian "Kily" González opted to leave star player Lionel Messi on the bench during the first half. The decision was part of a managed workload plan following the Argentine forward's recent heavy travel schedule, which included a trip to Spain to receive the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports in Oviedo. González explained that the choice was made in agreement with the player to minimize injury risks ahead of another upcoming fixture.

Trailing by a single goal, Inter Miami introduced Messi at the 56th minute mark. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner immediately injected energy and urgency into the match, orchestrating attacking plays and breaking through the Red Bulls' defensive lines with precise passing. His presence temporarily broke open the pitch, though his teammates were unable to capitalize on the openings he created.

The closest Inter Miami came to equalizing arrived late in the game through substitute Telasco Segovia. Following a setup from Messi and an initial attempt by Santiago Morales that was blocked, Segovia fired a powerful right-footed shot that struck the crossbar. That near-miss represented the team's best chance to salvage a point before the home defense fully re-organized.

As Inter Miami pushed all players forward in search of a desperate equalizer during stoppage time, the Red Bulls punished them on a counterattack. In the dying moments of the second half, Cameron Harper delivered a precise pass to Emil Forsberg, who slotted home the second goal to seal the victory and spark celebrations across the stadium.

With this result, Inter Miami remains second in the Eastern Conference standings, sitting 15 points behind Nashville. Meanwhile, the New York Red Bulls secured a vital three points that pushed them into the playoff qualification zone with only three matches remaining in the regular season. Inter Miami will look to regroup quickly as they prepare to face FC Cincinnati on Wednesday.
