Alemannia Aachen Defeats Preußen Münster 2-1 for Third Straight Win
Alemannia Aachen secured a hard-fought home victory against Preußen Münster at the Tivoli stadium, extending their winning streak and holding their ground in the 3. Liga standings.
Alemannia Aachen triumphed over rival Preußen Münster with a 2-1 victory in front of approximately 22,000 spectators at the Tivoli stadium. The match, which took place on Sunday evening, saw the hosts build a solid first-half lead that ultimately proved decisive despite a spirited second-half comeback attempt by the visiting team.
With this result, Aachen secured their third consecutive victory, bringing their season total to 20 points and successfully defending the fifth position in the 3. Liga table. Meanwhile, Preußen Münster suffered their third defeat in their last four outings, leaving them with 15 points and dropping them down to 14th place, just three points above the relegation zone.
The hosts controlled the opening period of the game under the direction of coach Mersad Selimbegovic, who fielded the same starting lineup from their previous win against VfB Stuttgart II. Aachen nearly opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Louis Köster struck the left goalpost with a sharp turn and shot from the edge of the box.
Münster responded shortly after when Charalambos Makridis broke free following a through ball, but his effort was stopped by Aachen goalkeeper Manuel Riemann. Immediately capitalizing on the missed opportunity, Aachen transitioned quickly, allowing Mika Schroers to break the deadlock in the 14th minute by slotting a low shot into the far corner from nine yards out.
Just before halftime, Aachen doubled their advantage courtesy of a remarkable individual effort from central defender Joel da Silva Kiala. In the 43rd minute, da Silva Kiala intercepted a pass roughly 35 yards out, dribbled past multiple defenders into the penalty area, and calmly rolled the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Preußen Münster came out of the locker room with renewed aggression after the break. Coach Thomas Wörle's side increased the pressure, testing Riemann with close-range headers and long-range efforts from players including Louis Kolbe and Romario Rösch, though they failed to capitalize on their chances.
The visitors' path grew even steeper in the 82nd minute when defender Tim Dietrich was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, reducing Münster to ten men. Despite the numerical disadvantage, substitute Montell Ndikom managed to pull a goal back in the 90th minute with a precise, low strike from the edge of the box.
The three-minute stoppage time, however, was not enough for Münster to equalize. Looking ahead to the next fixtures, both clubs will participate in regional matchups on Saturday, as Aachen travels to face Rot-Weiss Essen while Münster hosts MSV Duisburg at home.
