1. FC Nürnberg is set to host SV Darmstadt 98 in a 2. Bundesliga matchup at the Max-Morlock-Stadion on Saturday. Heading into the fixture, Nürnberg sits firmly in second place in the league table, while Darmstadt occupies the 16th relegation spot, setting the stage for a compelling clash between two teams experiencing vastly different trajectories.

Nürnberg manager Miroslav Klose expressed a strong desire to see his side occupy one of the top two promotion positions during the upcoming international break. To achieve this, a victory against Darmstadt is essential. Klose emphasized the importance of the club's supporters acting as a twelfth man, noting that "it was very positive recently what was going on in our stadium. That is our trump card," and adding that "that is the thing we know, that we have to set the stadium on fire. And we want to do that on Saturday."

Despite Darmstadt's dismal away record—having lost all four of their away matches this season with a combined goal difference of 1 to 13—Klose remains cautious. He pointed out that Nürnberg has historically struggled against the visitors, stating, "I don't want to speak of a bogey opponent. We've played good games against Darmstadt, but we've also lost very often, even unluckily lost."

Darmstadt enters the match under the guidance of coach Florian Kohfeldt, trying to steer clear of trouble after a difficult stretch. While the lilies have struggled on the road, they have attempted to stabilize defensively by deploying a deeper block. Kohfeldt's side recently secured draws in league action alongside a surprise DFB-Pokal victory against SV Elversberg, though they still face significant offensive challenges following key departures in their attack.

The home side also enters the weekend with a fresh face in the front office. The club recently appointed Dieter Frey as its new sporting director, succeeding Joti Chatzialexiou following his move to Eintracht Frankfurt. Frey, a former professional player who previously led Nürnberg's youth department, addressed the squad with what Klose described as a "very, very interesting message."

Frey voiced confidence in the current roster, stating, "The team has quality. Otherwise, we wouldn't be in second place. And besides the results, we've also delivered games where people went home satisfied." He added, "I feel a hunger in the squad not to let up and to always want to get better. I am very confident that we can play a good season." Frey stressed that the immediate focus must remain squarely on securing three points against Darmstadt rather than looking too far ahead.

For Klose, maintaining high pressure and offensive flair will be vital keys to breaking down Darmstadt's compact defensive structure. Having secured a 3-1 away victory against St. Pauli in their previous league outing, the team looks to build on that momentum. A victory would further solidify Nürnberg's position near the top of the standings and underline the contrasting fortunes of both clubs this season.
