Xavier Worthy and Kansas City Chiefs Stifled in Week 7 Loss to Seahawks
The young wide receiver managed only 11 yards as the struggling Kansas City Chiefs offense fell 20-3 to Seattle.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy and the Kansas City Chiefs struggled to find any offensive rhythm on Sunday night, suffering a decisive 20-3 defeat against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7. Worthy caught three of his six targets for just 11 yards, continuing a season-long trend of volatile production for the young pass-catcher.
With Rashee Rice inactive due to hamstring and knee injuries and Tyquan Thornton placed on injured reserve, the Chiefs heavily relied on Worthy to step up as their primary outside threat. However, the former first-round pick was effectively locked down by the Seattle defense, marking the fourth time this season he has finished a game with 25 receiving yards or less.
The offensive struggles extended well beyond Worthy during a difficult evening for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes completed 19 of 33 pass attempts for 165 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He faced heavy pressure on 53 percent of his dropbacks, representing the fourth-highest pressure rate of his career across both regular season and playoff matchups.
NBC broadcaster Cris Collinsworth noted a rare display of frustration from the star quarterback during the fourth quarter as the offense stalled. Discussing the team's youth and recent struggles, Mahomes addressed the collective mindset following the loss. "If you're not ready to play, you can get your head kicked in in this league," Mahomes remarked after the game, adding, "We have a young team; so we'll see how we respond."
Seattle's defense also neutralized running back Kenneth Walker, limiting him to 36 rushing yards on 14 carries against his former team. Meanwhile, the Seahawks capitalized on strong play from quarterback Sam Darnold, who threw for 257 yards and a touchdown, heavily targeting wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who hauled in 157 yards and the game's lone passing score.
Despite his recent quiet outing, Worthy has flashed upside earlier in the year with a pair of performances exceeding 70 receiving yards. Analysts suggest he will likely settle into a tertiary role in the passing attack once the team's receiving corps returns to full health.
Following one of the toughest offensive outings of Mahomes' career, the Chiefs will look to regroup next Sunday when they travel to face the Denver Broncos in search of a bounce-back victory.
