Voters across the United States are heading to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to cast their ballots in the midterm elections. Major races for control of both chambers of Congress, governorships, and various local offices are on the ballot, drawing strong attention from voters seeking to shape the political landscape.

In Illinois, election officials announced that Monday marks the final day of early voting ahead of Election Day. Under state law, polls across Illinois open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Voters with unsubmitted mail-in ballots are advised to use secure drop methods rather than standard mailboxes, as ballots must be postmarked by Election Day to count. Illinois also offers grace-period registration for eligible citizens through Election Day at designated locations.

South Carolina is experiencing heavy participation, with the State Election Commission reporting that over 948,000 people cast ballots during the early voting period, surpassing the previous record set in 2022. South Carolina polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring prominent matchups including a gubernatorial race between Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson and Democratic Representative Jermaine Johnson.

In Arizona, voters planning to cast ballots in person are required to bring a government-issued photo ID displaying their current address, or two alternative documents carrying their name and address, such as a utility bill or bank statement. Arizona polls open statewide at 6 a.m., and voters standing in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote. Citizens who lack proper identification or registration status at the polling site may cast a provisional ballot, provided they supply the required documentation within five business days.

Pennsylvania voters must report to their specific assigned polling locations, which are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with anyone in line by 8 p.m. legally entitled to vote. Pennsylvania Department of State officials reminded residents that mail-in ballots cannot be dropped off at polling places unless a voter surrenders their mail-in ballot to vote in person. Otherwise, mail-in ballots must be delivered to county election offices or secure drop boxes by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Pennsylvania does not permit same-day voter registration.

Nationwide, the 2026 midterm elections represent a critical battleground for control of Congress. Republicans currently hold a narrow 53-47 majority in the Senate, where 35 seats are up for reelection, while the House of Representatives features tight contests across all 435 congressional districts as parties vie for legislative power.
