The popular TBS Sunday drama series "VIVANT," starring actor Masato Sakai, featured a surprise guest appearance by veteran voice actor Toshio Furukawa during its 23rd episode, which aired on Sunday. Known for his iconic role as Piccolo in the "Dragon Ball" franchise, Furukawa's sudden involvement surprised and thrilled viewers.

The series follows Yusuke Nogi, played by Sakai, as he operates as part of an unofficial covert unit under the Japan Self-Defense Forces, uncovering the truth behind various international incidents. Following the conclusion of the first season's main plotline involving his father, Nogoon Beki, the second season has introduced a fresh set of mysteries.

In the 23rd episode, Nogi and his allies confront Elisha, a nuclear fusion technology researcher, leading to the revelation that the key character Jamine is actually Elisha's daughter, Prisha. Elisha discloses that a data disc containing crucial nuclear fusion technology was hidden inside Jamine by Adiel seven years prior.

Furukawa provided the Japanese voice for Elisha through the simultaneous interpretation device introduced in the second season, which translates foreign dialogue into Japanese for characters in the story. His appearance added to a growing roster of legendary voice actors featured in the ongoing season.

Fans quickly took to social media to celebrate the casting, noting the parallel with Norio Wakamoto, who voices the information broker Tyran and is famous for playing Cell in the "Dragon Ball" series. The pairing of the voices behind Piccolo and Cell generated significant excitement among anime enthusiasts.

Producer Kazutaka Iida previously explained that the production team implemented the simultaneous translation device to make the series more accessible to younger audiences and international viewers who might struggle with subtitles. Iida noted that the casting choices, featuring prominent voice actors even for minor roles, aimed to build a powerhouse ensemble akin to an "Avengers" assembly.

The drama series approaches its final chapter, with the 24th episode scheduled to air as the season finale. As the previous episode concluded with a dramatic cliffhanger involving the fate of Mamoru Nozaki, viewers remain attentive to see whether any additional surprise voice actors will be revealed before the conclusion.
