Valentin Vacherot advanced to the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel after securing a hard-fought victory in three sets against former finalist Holger Rune. The win halted Rune's promising comeback attempt and set up a compelling semifinal matchup.

In the upcoming round, Vacherot, ranked number 31 in the world, is scheduled to play against the top remaining seed, Taylor Fritz. The American advanced to the semifinals after benefiting from the retirement of his opponent, Arthur Fils, during their match.

The upcoming fixture marks a rematch of last year's encounter between Vacherot and Fritz. During their previous meeting in the first round last year, the Californian secured the win after a grueling battle lasting over two and a half hours.

Meanwhile, the tournament in Basel also marked the end of the run for the final Swiss competitor, Jérôme Kym. Playing with a wildcard, Kym was defeated in the quarterfinals by Jiri Lehecka with scores of 6:4, 6:2, following Lehecka's earlier victory that ended Stan Wawrinka's tournament run.

Despite the quarterfinal exit, Kym reflected positively on his performance in Basel, where he became the first Swiss player to reach the quarterfinals since Dominic Stricker three years prior. Kym's tournament run is expected to improve his world ranking by approximately 65 positions.

In other tennis developments, Arthur Fery achieved a career milestone by reaching a new best ranking of number 31 in the world, though his spot is closely monitored by Vacherot as competition continues across the tour events.
