Unión Bahía Faces Challenging Road Trip in Women's National Basketball League
The team travels to Buenos Aires for back-to-back games against Vélez and Boca Juniors.
The Unión Bahía women's basketball team is preparing for a demanding stretch in the Southern Conference of the National Women's Basketball League. The squad has traveled to Buenos Aires to compete in two consecutive away games, facing Vélez this evening at the Víctor Barba stadium and Boca Juniors tomorrow afternoon at La Bombonerita.
This road trip represents a significant challenge for the team, which currently sits in sixth place in the conference standings. With a record of one win and four losses, Unión Bahía is looking to improve its position against two established opponents. The team's roster for this trip includes Agostina Leguizamón, Belén Tombesi, Delfina Álves da Florencia, Isabel Sorzini, Ileana Corvalán, Isabella Larrasolo, Amparo Althabe, Clara Pisani, Juana Montivero, Isabella Canutti, and Julia Quinteros. They will also be joined by Isabella Roldán, who is already in the capital.
The coaching staff, led by Julián Turcato and assisted by Andrés Larrasolo and physical trainer Valentín Rossi, is focused on the tactical execution required to compete at this level. While the matchup against Vélez marks the first time the two teams have met this season, Unión Bahía is already familiar with the strength of Boca Juniors. The team previously faced the conference leaders in their season opener, resulting in a 67-38 defeat at the José Martínez stadium in Villa Mitre.
Boca Juniors currently leads the Southern Conference with 11 points, having secured five victories in six appearances. The standings reflect a competitive field, with Quilmes holding 10 points and Independiente following with nine. Vélez, which recently secured home victories against Independiente and El Biguá, enters the contest in fourth place with eight points.
The competition remains tight in the lower half of the table as well. Unión Bahía is currently tied with El Biguá at six points, while Peñarol remains at the bottom of the conference with four points and no wins to date. The outcome of this weekend's games will be crucial for determining the momentum of the participating teams as the league season progresses.
As the players settle into the capital, the focus remains entirely on the upcoming physical and strategic demands of the back-to-back schedule. The team’s ability to adapt to these high-pressure environments will be tested as they aim to secure valuable points on the road.
