Thomas Markle Accused of Possessing Child Exploitation Material

Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, is facing severe accusations regarding the possession of child exploitation material, according to British tabloid reports published on Friday, October 23. The allegations emerged after his son reportedly discovered a cache of inappropriate images at Thomas Markle's former residence in the Philippines, prompting local authorities to open an investigation.

Speaking from Florida to the Daily Mail, 82-year-old Thomas Markle strongly denied the allegations, dismissing them as a bunch of lies. The Philippine police did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Associated Press regarding the reported investigation.

Meghan Markle released a statement expressing that she was deeply upset by the revelations of the past 24 hours. "My thoughts go out to all the children who may have been victims," the Duchess of Sussex stated. She added that her decision to distance herself from her father and prevent him from having any contact with her children was solely to protect them.

The 45-year-old Duchess noted that she had first learned of concerning allegations regarding her father in a letter sent to British police in the summer of 2018, shortly after her wedding to Prince Harry. She stated that she had been assured at the time that the matter was being investigated.

The Metropolitan Police in London stated they were verifying information regarding the potential transmission of the 2018 letter. However, a source close to the matter indicated that Scotland Yard had never investigated and was not currently investigating Thomas Markle, while British news agency PA noted the letter was originally passed to the Duchess in 2018.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry share two children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5. The Duchess stated that although the magnitude of the recent revelations is extremely disturbing, her sincere wish is that justice is fully served and that the safety of innocent children remains the top priority.

The father and daughter have experienced a fractured relationship for years. Thomas Markle did not attend the royal wedding in 2018 after previous controversies involving staged paparazzi photographs, and the couple largely cut ties with him. Although Meghan briefly reconnected with him in December 2025 when he was hospitalized in the Philippines following a leg amputation, the latest allegations continue a long history of estrangement.
