Meghan Markle Speaks Out Following Police Investigation Into Her Father
The Duchess of Sussex stated she is deeply distressed after learning of child sexual abuse image allegations involving her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr.
Meghan Markle has issued a public statement expressing that she feels deeply distressed following reports that her estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., is under investigation over the alleged discovery of indecent images at his home. The development has brought renewed attention to the long-standing estrangement between the Duchess of Sussex and her father, who has denied all accusations.
According to reports, Thomas Markle Jr. contacted law enforcement after allegedly discovering hundreds of inappropriate images inside storage boxes at his father's residence in Cebu, Philippines. Thomas Jr. stated that he felt horrified upon the discovery and reported the material to the FBI and local authorities in July, eventually submitting a sworn statement to Philippine police.
In her statement, Meghan revealed that she has been aware of troubling allegations against her father since 2018, when a letter detailing concerns was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection in London. She explained that this knowledge was the primary reason she maintained distance from her father and chose not to allow him to have contact with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
"I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications' distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them," Meghan stated. She added that while the new revelations are sickening, her sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served.
Thomas Markle Sr., 82, has strongly denied the accusations, calling them sick lies and expressing shock and hurt over the claims made by his son. His health has been a frequent subject of news coverage in recent years following heart issues, a stroke, and the amputation of his leg, which preceded his return from the Philippines to the United States earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Samantha Markle, Meghan's half-sister and her father's primary caregiver, has fiercely defended him and disputed the allegations. Samantha accused her brother of fabricating the claims for financial gain and argued that the computers and stored belongings had been shipped from Mexico and kept in a basement where their father had no access to them for two years.
The ongoing investigation involves authorities in both the United States and the Philippines, though no formal findings of guilt have been established. The family remains deeply divided as investigators look into the submitted evidence.
