Thierno Barry's second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory for Everton over Newcastle United at St James' Park on Monday, helping the Toffees return to winning ways in the Premier League. The breakthrough arrived shortly after halftime when Barry reacted quickly to poke home his fourth league goal of the campaign following a fumbled shot by Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.

The win ended a three-game winless run in the Premier League for Everton under manager David Moyes, lifting the team up to seventh in the standings. Meanwhile, Newcastle slipped to 13th place in the table and saw their difficult evening compounded when substitute Jacob Ramsey was shown two yellow cards in quick succession, resulting in a late red card during stoppage time.

Everton dominated much of the play and had numerous opportunities before breaking the deadlock. Jarrad Branthwaite headed wide from a set-piece early on, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall orchestrated much of the visitors' attack, creating chances for teammates including Harrison Armstrong and Merlin Rohl in a scoreless first half.

Barry's decisive moment came in the 49th minute after Tyrique George forced an initial save down the left flank. Hornicek failed to hold the slippery surface effort, leaving Barry perfectly positioned to tap the ball into an empty net and register his eighth goal of the season across all competitions.

The goal underwent a lengthy VAR review before being officially confirmed. Officials checked for a potential foul on Fabian Schar and reviewed the build-up for offside, but ultimately allowed the goal to stand, determining that the physical contact fell within the accepted threshold of the Premier League.

Despite controlling large portions of the match, Everton had to weather some late pressure from the hosts. Newcastle nearly equalized through Anthony Elange and Yoane Wissa, but goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and the woodwork preserved the clean sheet for the visitors.

Speaking after the match, Everton defender James Tarkowski praised the forward's relentless work ethic. "Barry gets the goal again for us," Tarkowski said. "There is a lot on his shoulders because he is our only recognized striker, but he keeps turning up."

Barry also highlighted his dedication during the offseason for his current form. "I worked a lot during the summer and now we can see the result," Barry told Sky Sports. "The season is long, but I'm happy to help the team with my goals." Everton will now prepare for a quick turnaround ahead of their upcoming home match against Coventry City on Friday.
