The Voice Season 30 Introduces Historic Cut Week and Narrows Teams
Coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green trimmed their rosters from seven artists down to three in the biggest elimination round in the series' history.
The hit NBC competition series The Voice has introduced a brand-new phase to the competition known as Cut Week, replacing the traditional Knockouts and Playoffs. Aired on November 2, the historic episode featured the largest single-night elimination in the show's history, as coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green aggressively whittled their teams down from seven contestants to just three.
Prior to the competitive performances, each coach selected two artists from their respective teams to advance directly to the upcoming Live Shows. On Team Queen, Queen Latifah chose Mia Knight and BigCountry to move forward. Team Adam advanced Lexi Stephens and Connor Closs, while Team Riley selected Cade Mower and Ferryn and Brinkley. Team Kelly rounded out the direct-advance group by choosing Koumba Diallo and Anna McElroy.
The remaining five artists on each team were then forced to perform once more to fight for a single remaining spot. Team Queen's Lillie Kolich secured her place after performing The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love," defeating teammates Chari, Alt Bloom, Destinee Monroe, and Bryan James. Reflecting on the difficult choices, Queen Latifah stated that the advancing contestants possessed something unique that would deeply enrich her roster.
On Team Adam, coach Adam Levine admitted that making his final choice was essentially a coin flip before ultimately selecting rock singer Dakota Cohen, who performed Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)." Levine noted that he wanted to ensure a strong female rock presence remained on the show. The remaining members of Team Adam who performed included Brandon Diaz, Amanda Mikkel, Owen Uffens, and Even James.
Team Riley advanced Joe Henley after he performed Keith Whitley's "Don't Close Your Eyes." Riley Green praised his team's diversity, noting that he selected Henley based on strong song choice and gut instinct over competitors Kayleigh Mathews, Keiyana Osmond, Everett Bounds, and Allie Rae. Meanwhile, Kelly Clarkson chose Brianna Cameron to claim the final spot on her team after a moving performance of Natalie Cole's "Inseparable," calling the 13-year-old singer a "little onion" with many layers.
Following the conclusion of Cut Week, 16 eliminated artists are now facing a public vote. The American public will select a single artist out of the remaining contestants to complete the Top 13. Fans can stream the next episode of The Voice on Monday, November 9, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, when the final results and the complete Live Show lineup will be officially announced.
