Texas Roadhouse Customer Claims He Received Cheaper Steaks Multiple Times
A loyal patron in Illinois went viral after alleging that a local Texas Roadhouse location served him sirloin instead of filet mignon on three separate visits.
A regular customer of Texas Roadhouse has drawn online attention after claiming that a restaurant location in Forsyth, Illinois, repeatedly served him a cheaper cut of beef instead of the filet mignon he ordered. Kenneth Card, who visited the establishment about once a week for over a year, shared his experience on TikTok in early October, accumulating more than 30,000 views.
Card, whose background includes working in hotel and restaurant kitchens preparing and cutting steaks, stated that he was confident in his ability to distinguish between the cuts of meat. The 8-ounce sirloin typically costs about $20 at the Forsyth location, whereas the filet mignon is priced around $30.
According to Card, the mix-up occurred on three separate occasions. The first time he noticed the discrepancy, he informed the staff, who provided him with a replacement filet. On his second visit, he consumed the meal without raising the issue. During his third visit, however, he decided to speak directly with a manager.
"I was like, 'Look, this is the third time that y'all tried to sell me a sirloin or whatever else kind of steak it is besides a filet,'" Card recalled. Staff members took the plate to the kitchen for a second opinion and acknowledged it was not what he had ordered. Card ultimately waited for a new steak to take home and subsequently published his video to caution other diners.
A corporate spokesperson for Texas Roadhouse addressed the situation by confirming that management quickly resolved the issue onsite on one occasion. However, the company stated that it had "not been able to track that this occurred on three occasions." The restaurant chain emphasized that kitchen teams rigorously double-check food quality and accuracy before orders leave the kitchen, and advised customers to report any discrepancies to their server immediately so the staff can rectify the problem.
The viral video prompted a wide range of reactions across social media. While some viewers suggested the incident was likely an isolated mistake by a busy kitchen staff, others noted that patrons unfamiliar with meat cuts might easily miss such an error. Card remarked that a filet "melts in your mouth" and is very tender, whereas a sirloin is "a little grittier, a little chewier."
Despite the resolution on his final visit, Card stated that he does not plan to return to the Forsyth restaurant. "I think I'm done going in there," he said. "I'll try somewhere else."
