CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 following a severe on-field collision during a Segunda División match against FC Andorra on Monday night. The fateful incident occurred in the closing moments of stoppage time while the match was tied at 2-2 near the halfway line.

As Tenerife launched a counterattack with a long ball from their own half, de Miguel sprinted forward to challenge for possession. FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his area to intercept, resulting in a violent collision where de Miguel was struck in the chest and head near midfield. Referee Manuel Perez immediately issued Owono a straight red card and abandoned the fixture.

Following the impact, de Miguel initially collapsed onto the pitch and received urgent medical attention as players signaled frantically to the sidelines. Paramedics treated him on the field before transporting him via ambulance to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Medical reports revealed that de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while in transit and required resuscitation by emergency responders.

Tenerife initially stated that the striker was stable despite the severity of his condition. However, his neurological condition deteriorated during the early hours of Tuesday, and the club sadly announced his passing at 8:00 a.m. local time.

Spanish authorities have responded swiftly to the tragedy. The country's National Police confirmed on Tuesday that an investigation has been opened alongside prosecutors to examine the circumstances of the collision, exploring a possible involuntary manslaughter charge.

The football world has been left in deep mourning, prompting an overwhelming wave of tributes from across Spain and international soccer. FC Andorra expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the player's family, while clubs including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Valencia, Rayo Vallecano, and the Spanish Football Federation shared statements of solidarity.

In response to the tragedy, the Royal Spanish Football Federation suspended all matches scheduled for Tuesday, including several Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina fixtures. Real Madrid players observed a moment of silence during training, and global football stars joined in offering their grief and support to the grieving family and the Tenerife community.
