The biographical film "Flo," which details the remarkable life of pioneering sailor Florence Arthaud, made its free-to-air television debut on France 2 on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Directed by Géraldine Danon and originally released in theaters in 2023, the feature film drew an audience of 1.4 million viewers, accounting for an 8.8% audience share.

Portrayed on screen by actress Stéphane Caillard alongside a cast that includes Alexis Michalik and Pierre Deladonchamps, the movie chronicles the athletic achievements and turbulent journey of Arthaud. She earned historic renown on November 18, 1990, by becoming the first woman to win the Route du Rhum solo transatlantic race aboard her trimaran Pierre 1er. Arthaud passed away at the age of 57 on March 9, 2015, following a helicopter collision in Argentina while filming the reality television series "Dropped."

Despite bringing the sporting icon back into the national spotlight, the television broadcast also revived sharp objections from the late navigator's family. Her brother, Hubert Arthaud, previously condemned the production as defamatory. He strongly criticized the film's heavy focus on her personal life rather than her celebrated athletic career.

Hubert Arthaud specifically disputed several scenes depicted in the biography, including a 1974 car accident in which the character is shown driving while consuming alcohol. He maintained that his sister was actually a passenger in the back seat at the time. Furthermore, the relatives challenged the director's claims of a close personal friendship dating back to the 1980s, with Hubert Arthaud asserting that the filmmaker was never truly his sister's friend.

In terms of evening television ratings, the broadcast on France 2 placed behind several other channels. France 3 secured the leading position of the night with a rerun of the detective series "Vera," capturing over 2.6 million viewers and nearly 15% of the market share. Meanwhile, TF1 followed closely in second place with the comedy film "Ici et là-bas," which attracted 2.3 million viewers.

The television airing of the film coincided with the start of the 13th edition of the Route du Rhum, connecting contemporary maritime competition with the enduring legacy of the athlete affectionately known as the "little fiancée of the Atlantic." While the cinematic work successfully engaged over a million households, it continues to navigate turbulent waters regarding its biographical accuracy and the authorization of its subject's intimate narrative.
