Tampa Bay Rays advance to World Series after eliminating Cleveland Guardians

The Rays secured the American League pennant with a Game 6 victory over Cleveland, setting up a matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Tampa Bay Rays punched their ticket to the World Series by defeating the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series at Tropicana Field. Trailing two games to one earlier in the series, Tampa Bay rattled off three consecutive victories to claim the pennant and advance to the Fall Classic for the third time in franchise history.

In the decisive Game 6, strong pitching performances paved the way for the Rays. Freddy Peralta delivered 5.1 strong innings, allowing just one run to earn the win. The bullpen maintained the lead, supported by offensive contributions from Junior Caminero, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and veteran infielder Yandy Díaz.

For the Cleveland Guardians, the loss brought a painful end to a resilient postseason run. Following the final out, a quiet moment in the visiting clubhouse captured the heartbreak of the elimination. Star third baseman José Ramírez was photographed sitting alone with his head down, processing the end of a gruelling season.

Ramírez had carried a heavy load for Cleveland throughout the year, battling back from left-hand hamate bone surgery in June that limited him to twelve regular-season home runs. Despite not being fully healthy, he provided critical heroics in the Division Series against the Chicago White Sox, hitting crucial home runs in consecutive elimination games and making key defensive plays.

Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt addressed his players after the loss, encouraging them to let the defeat hurt and use it as motivation for the winter. With Ramírez expected to be fully healthy next year, the Guardians will look to build on their postseason experience and continue pursuing the franchise's first championship in decades.

With the American League pennant secured, the Rays now turn their focus to the Milwaukee Brewers, who won 103 games during the regular season and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
