Suzlon Energy Reports Q2 Revenue Growth Alongside Credit Rating Upgrades
The wind energy company saw its second-quarter revenue rise significantly while managing compressed operating margins and celebrating multiple credit rating enhancements.
Suzlon Energy Limited posted a 26 percent increase in revenue for the second quarter of the fiscal year, reaching Rs. 4,869 crore compared to Rs. 3,866 crore during the same period in the previous year. The company delivered a record 710 megawatts of wind turbines, indicating robust execution and higher operational activity across its projects.
Despite the strong top-line growth, consolidated net profit for the quarter fell by 69 percent to Rs. 394 crore, down from Rs. 1,279 crore a year earlier. However, company disclosures noted that the sharp annual decline was heavily influenced by an unusually strong comparison period from the previous year, which included a substantial deferred tax asset benefit of approximately Rs. 891 crore. Excluding that specific tax impact, the adjusted comparable net profit for the previous year was about Rs. 389 crore, indicating modest growth of roughly 1.3 percent.
Operating profitability faced distinct pressures during the quarter. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization stood flat at approximately Rs. 720 crore, compared with Rs. 721 crore a year earlier. Consequently, the company's EBITDA margin narrowed from 18.6 percent to 14.8 percent. Profit before tax also declined slightly to Rs. 518 crore from about Rs. 563 crore, highlighting a weaker relationship between sales expansion and operating returns.
Performance varied across Suzlon's business segments during the quarter. The Renewable Energy Solutions segment grew its revenue by 30 percent to Rs. 4,212 crore, but its segment result fell 22.5 percent to Rs. 371 crore. Conversely, the Renewable Energy Asset Management Services division saw revenue rise by 11.2 percent to Rs. 640 crore, while its segment result jumped 51.5 percent to Rs. 220 crore, providing crucial financial support.
Operationally, Suzlon advanced its project pipeline by commissioning 454 megawatts during the quarter alongside its record deliveries. The company concluded the period with an order book exceeding 6 gigawatts, with public sector undertakings and commercial and industrial customers making up 78 percent of that backlog. Engineering, procurement, and construction contracts represented 38 percent of outstanding orders, and management is working to increase that share to 50 percent by the 2027-28 fiscal year.
Amid these operational dynamics, Suzlon received positive evaluations from credit rating agencies. ICRA upgraded the company's long-term rating to ICRA A+ with a positive outlook, while reaffirming the short-term rating at ICRA A1 for total rated bank loan facilities amounting to Rs. 2,635 crores. Additionally, CRISIL upgraded Suzlon's long-term credit rating to AA- with a stable outlook, and the company reported that its net worth crossed Rs. 10,000 crore.
Chief executive Ajay Kapur and chief financial officer Rahul Jain emphasized the importance of manufacturing capabilities, execution discipline, cash flow, and managing commodity and currency volatility. As Suzlon looks ahead to future quarters, leadership aims to translate its expanding order book and delivery volume into more consistent operating earnings and improved profit conversion.
