Suspicious Envelope Forces Scottish School Evacuation
Elgin Academy was closed as a precaution on Wednesday morning after emergency services responded to a suspicious envelope.
A Scottish high school was forced to close, and all students were sent home following the discovery of a suspicious package on campus. Moray Council confirmed that Elgin Academy was evacuated as a precautionary measure in accordance with standard emergency procedures.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed three fire units and two special fire service appliances to the location. Officials on the scene stated that the response was handled primarily as a police matter while emergency personnel assessed the situation.
Police Scotland later clarified that the item in question was a suspicious envelope. Local Area Commander for Moray, Chief Inspector Andy Meikleham, noted that authorities received the report shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to Chief Inspector Meikleham, the school was closed immediately as a precaution while emergency services remained at the facility on Morriston Road. Officials confirmed that ongoing inquiries are currently underway to determine the nature and origin of the envelope.
Before the formal updates from law enforcement, parents received an urgent notification regarding an issue in one of the school's facilities. The message indicated that the campus would shut down for the remainder of the day and that all pupils would be dismissed immediately.
Moray Council arranged school transportation to return students to their homes safely. Representatives thanked both the pupils and the staff for maintaining a calm and professional demeanor throughout the unexpected evacuation process.
Local authorities stated that parents will receive direct updates once the emergency services have completely finalized their initial inquiries and safety checks at the campus.
