Supreme Court President Edson Fachin assigned separate paths on Thursday for two major sets of investigations that had remained stalled in the court presidency since September. Under the new ruling, the proceedings concerning payroll deductions in the National Social Security Institute return to Justice André Mendonça, while inquiries involving Banco Master remain under the presidency's oversight for up to ninety days.

The return of the social security procedures encompasses the Operation Without Discount investigations, which examine irregular deductions from pensions and retirements. This proceeding includes inquiries regarding Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, the son of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Fachin stated that, at present, there are no concrete elements that justify keeping these specific case files outside of standard distribution.

Meanwhile, procedures from Operation Compliance Zero regarding suspected irregularities at Banco Master stay with the presidency for a maximum period of ninety days. During this timeframe, the presidency will safeguard the records, ensure proper processing, and handle urgent matters such as periodic reviews of preventive detentions. Fachin ordered the Federal Police to deliver a detailed report concerning references to members of the court to determine whether the proceedings should continue under the presidency or be split at the full bench.

The files had been sent to the presidency during an internal crisis sparked in September by a clash between Justice Mendonça and Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The dispute followed the disclosure of messages involving former banker Daniel Vorcaro and Moraes, alongside mutual accusations regarding the handling of the inquiries. Mendonça had sent an official notice to Fachin in late September requesting a resolution after defense attorneys continued filing motions in his office while the physical files remained sequestered.

In public safety developments, the family of a deceased Special Operations Battalion officer is demanding answers regarding a suspected friendly-fire incident in Rio de Janeiro. Subtenant Gláucio Marcelo Fonseca da Silva, aged fifty-four, died on Sunday during an operation in Jacarepaguá when military police officers from the area battalion reportedly mistook elite tactical unit members for criminals in low-visibility conditions. Six officers were wounded in the resulting exchange, and the victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Aline Viana, the ex-wife of the deceased officer, questioned how the area unit failed to identify the elite troops despite prior communication regarding their presence in the zone. She noted that the tragedy marks the second loss of a Bope member in her family in under a year, following the death of her former brother-in-law during a major operation in October 2025. The Civil Police Homicide Delegation and the Internal Affairs Bureau of the Military Police are currently analyzing body-worn camera footage and ballistic evidence to clarify the timeline and mechanics of the confrontation.

In separate police matters, local municipal authorities and the Criminal Investigation Department of the Judiciary Police in Madeira recently promoted an informational session focused on preventing computer fraud and cyber scams. The initiative aimed to educate residents on recognizing suspicious phone contacts, fraudulent investment schemes, and fictitious romantic relationships designed to solicit money. Officials emphasized that community awareness is critical for safeguarding personal savings and data against digital crimes.

Additionally, law enforcement authorities in São Paulo state processed a suspect apprehended after performing dangerous maneuvers on a motorized bicycle. Following a brief pursuit near Prefeito Prestes Avenue, officers presented the individual to the judicial police authority to evaluate the facts and enforce appropriate legal measures.
