During a heated debate on ESPN's 'First Take,' Stephen A. Smith called Michael Irvin pathetic for viewing Monday's matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles as a must-win game.

The rivalry between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles reached television and live-audience stages ahead of their Monday night showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Entering the game with identical 2-4 records, the divisional rivals became the center of a fiery debate on ESPN's "First Take" between analyst Stephen A. Smith and former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin.

Irvin asserted during the broadcast that if the Cowboys fail to defeat the Eagles, their season is effectively over. The proclamation prompted a strong reaction from Smith, who did not hold back his criticism of his co-host's outlook on the team.

"I want to let everybody know how pathetic Michael Irvin is," Smith said on the air. "He is absolutely positively pathetic. Get all over him... If you see Michael Irvin online somewhere, troll him. Troll him to the end. This is pathetic."

Despite his public mockery and encouragement for viewers to tease the Hall of Famer online, Smith acknowledged the underlying struggles facing Dallas. He noted that the Cowboys are 3-8 in their last 11 games dating back to December, hold an NFL-worst prime-time record since the start of the year, and are currently on a two-game skid following losses to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers.

However, Smith took issue with Irvin writing off the team's playoff hopes only seven games into the season, pointing out that the NFC East remains wide open. The New York Giants currently lead the division with a 4-2-1 record, while the Eagles sit second and the Cowboys third, leaving Dallas only two games back in the standings with 10 regular-season games remaining after Monday night.

Meanwhile, Irvin brought his signature energy to Philadelphia earlier in the day during an appearance on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" live show at Stateside Live! in South Philly. Standing before a crowd of Eagles fans, the former star receiver tried to stir up the opposition, playfully taking jabs at the home faithful and downplaying backup-turned-starter quarterback Tanner McKee.

"We're going to call him McGee," Irvin joked to the crowd. "You know why I'm not calling him McKee? Because he's not the key to anything."

Irvin's comments drew a swift response from "Good Morning Football" host Kyle Brandt, who wore a McKee jersey and defended the team alongside local fans and former Eagles players. Brandt expressed optimism about Philadelphia's postseason prospects despite a four-game losing streak and key injuries, noting that everything remains on the table in a competitive division. Following Monday's contest, the Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals on November 1, while the Eagles prepare to face Washington and the Giants.
