Spanish Professional Soccer Player Jesús de Miguel Dies at 30 After On-Field Collision
The CD Tenerife forward passed away at a hospital following a severe impact during a match against FC Andorra.
Spanish soccer player Jesús de Miguel passed away at the age of 30 following a severe on-field collision during a second-division match between CD Tenerife and FC Andorra. The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening, November 2, 2026, in the seventh minute of stoppage time. CD Tenerife announced the death of the forward on Tuesday morning, stating that he passed away at 8:00 a.m. at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital.
The fatal collision took place near the centerline as de Miguel chased a long ball during a counterattack. FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out to challenge, resulting in a heavy impact that left the Tenerife striker motionless on the pitch. Referee Manuel Perez immediately halted the match as players from both sides reacted with visible distress and tears. Owono was shown a red card for the challenge.
Medical personnel treated de Miguel on the field for several minutes before transporting him via ambulance. According to media reports, the player suffered a cardiac arrest en route to the hospital and was successfully resuscitated by paramedics. Although he arrived at the hospital breathing independently, he remained unconscious on life support in the intensive care unit. His neurological condition deteriorated overnight, leading to his passing the following morning.
CD Tenerife expressed profound grief in a published statement, writing, "With deep pain, a lump in our throat, and unable to believe that this is true, we announce the tragic death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda." The club added, "There are no comforting words; nothing can alleviate this immense sorrow. We stand by his grieving family, his loved ones, and all of Tenerife, which today mourns this cruel loss." The club requested privacy for his family during the difficult time.
De Miguel leaves behind his partner, María, and their 16-month-old daughter, Carla, who were reportedly watching from the stands at the stadium. Tributes poured in from across the sports world. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) canceled scheduled domestic cup matches as a sign of respect and solidarity. Additionally, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that a moment of silence would be held at all European club matches throughout the week.
FC Andorra and club president Gerard Piqué also shared their condolences, stating, "With broken hearts and deeply shattered, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family, all his colleagues, friends, and CD Tenerife." Other prominent clubs, including Real Madrid, held moments of silence during their training sessions, while athletes and figures across international sports expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy.
Born in Madrid, de Miguel developed through the youth ranks of CD Leganés before joining Tenerife in 2025. He quickly established himself as a key player, scoring eleven goals to help lead the traditional club to promotion into the Segunda División. He also served on the board of directors for the Spanish association of professional soccer players. Following the incident, the homicide unit of the National Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife announced an investigation into the precise circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
