South Africa secured a 176-run victory over Australia on Saturday in the third Test at Cape Town, capturing the series 2-1 under captain Temba Bavuma. Chasing a target of 288 runs on the final day, the Australian batting lineup collapsed completely under a relentless bowling attack, getting bowled out for just 111 runs.

The foundation for South Africa's competitive second-innings total of 387 was laid by strong centuries from Ryan Rickelton, who scored 101, and Wiaan Mulder, who contributed 115. Their partnership helped the hosts recover from a precarious position after Mitchell Starc had earlier dismantled the South African first innings with six wickets for 72 runs, giving Australia a 100-run lead following their first-innings score of 429.

However, any hopes of an Australian successful run chase evaporated during a catastrophic opening session on the fifth day. Kagiso Rabada struck in the very first over, removing Matt Renshaw caught behind and trapping Marnus Labuschagne leg-before-wicket for four runs. Rabada soon added the wicket of Travis Head to reach a milestone of 350 Test wickets, finishing his early spell with figures of three for 14.

Off-spinner Simon Harmer compounded the visitors' misery from the other end. Harmer dismantled the middle and lower order, dismissing Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, and Mitchell Starc before lunch as Australia slumped to 60 for 7. Harmer ultimately finished the innings with career-best figures of 6 for 16, claiming 10 wickets in the match overall.

Former Australian opening batsman David Warner heavily criticized his former team's performance during a broadcast appearance, describing the batting collapse as terrible and un-Australian. Despite a slow period of defensive batting after lunch featuring extended scoreless blocks from Pat Cummins and Cameron Green, the tourists could not avoid a comprehensive defeat.

The victory returned South Africa to the top of the international Test rankings. Meanwhile, the series loss dropped Australia to third place in the ICC World Test Championship standings, significantly impacting the current cycle as both teams prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
