The Sharks secured an impressive 36-21 victory over Cardiff at Arms Park, becoming the first side to defeat the Blue and Blacks in the Welsh capital since last December. Despite playing into the wind during the first half, the South African visitors scored six tries to overpower their opponents and claim a dominant win in the United Rugby Championship.

The match began with a major concern for the visitors when captain Andre Esterhuizen was forced off with an injury to his right Achilles just seconds after the opening kick-off, following an aerial duel with Harri Millard. The Springboks center landed awkwardly and had to be replaced by Jaco Williams, raising immediate concerns for national team head coach Rassie Erasmus ahead of an upcoming tour.

Despite losing their captain early, the Sharks quickly opened the scoring in the second minute. Jurenzo Julius provided a sharp offload to Ethan Hooker, who shifted from the wing to the midfield and crossed over for the game's first try. Although Gianni Lombard missed the conversion, the visitors maintained strong pressure.

Cardiff responded brilliantly in the tenth minute through a fluid attacking sequence. Former Shark Le Roux Malan initiated a break, passing to Cam Winnett, who set up wing Josh Adams to score in the corner. Jarrod Evans successfully added the extra points to give the Welsh region a brief 7-5 lead.

The Sharks mounted waves of pressure afterward, having a try by Zekhethelo Siyaya disallowed by the TMO due to an earlier knock-on. However, they broke through again before halftime when flanker Matt Romao exploited weak defense to score, followed quickly by a driving maul try from lock Jason Jenkins on the stroke of halftime, pushing the visitors ahead 17-7.

Cardiff mounted a strong comeback early in the second half, turning the match around with two tries from flanker James Botham. Botham scored his first from close range following a tap penalty, and quickly added a second after peeling off a driving line-up expertly found by an Evans penalty kick, narrowing the gap.

The hosts briefly held momentum before a brawl erupted on the field, which galvanized the visitors. The Sharks responded by hammering away at the line, allowing tight-head prop Thomas du Toit to crash over for a vital bonus-point try inside the final quarter.

Replacement hooker Ethan Bester sealed the victory in the 74th minute by guiding another driving line-out across the line. Romao added his second try of the night in the closing moments to cap off the scoring, sealing a convincing win that left Cardiff pointless and searching for answers after struggling heavily at the set-piece.
