Sevilla Files Complaint Over Coverage and Refereeing After Real Madrid Loss
The Andalusian club is demanding original footage and questioning broadcast protocols following a controversial 4-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Sevilla has taken formal action following a heated 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, submitting an official complaint to LaLiga regarding match television coverage and refereeing decisions. The Andalusian club is demanding access to original recordings and questioning the protocols used to determine which camera angles are shown during broadcasts of controversial incidents.
The frustration stems from multiple disputed plays during the match on October 18. Sevilla players heavily protested an incident involving Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler and Peque, demanding a red card that never materialized. VAR officials ultimately chose not to recommend an on-field review, citing a lack of conclusive footage, while Güler remained on the pitch to open the scoring for the hosts.
According to the complaint signed by club president José María del Nido Carrasco, the core issue involves a disparity in television production. Sevilla argues that certain incidents were broadcast only from distant camera angles without utilizing zoom tools, while other plays received multiple angles and thorough analysis. The club also questioned why these disputed moments were omitted from the official match highlights released after the fixture.
Beyond the Güler incident, Sevilla highlighted several other questionable moments, including an appeal for a penalty following a challenge on Peque and a perceived foul in the buildup to Real Madrid's second goal. The club has requested camera placement details at the stadium, preservation of all audiovisual material for potential legal action, and guarantees that every team receives equal television treatment regardless of the venue.
In addition to the LaLiga complaint, club leadership met with representatives of the Technical Committee of Referees to review the controversial plays. While discussions remained respectful, both sides maintained differing interpretations, with the refereeing body defending the decision not to intervene due to insufficient clear footage.
Meanwhile, the disciplinary fallout from the match has also affected player sanctions. The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation rejected Sevilla's appeal regarding an administrative error in the referee's match report. The official report mistakenly attributed a yellow card for arguing to Portuguese player Félix Correia instead of Agoumé, but the committee decided to maintain the caution and its disciplinary effects, stating that the video evidence did not prove a manifest material error.
