Seattle Seahawks Release Cornerback Trevon Diggs
The former All-Pro defender was waived on Friday as the team looks to adjust its roster following consecutive losses.
The Seattle Seahawks released cornerback Trevon Diggs on Friday, according to the league transaction wire, freeing up a roster spot as the team works to get its season back on track. The transaction was confirmed by reporters including Nick Harris of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Easton Butler.
The move comes after the Seahawks dropped consecutive games to the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos, leaving the team with a 3-3 record heading into Week 7. Seattle is also managing several injuries and trying to overcome an early-season deficit in the NFC West, adding urgency to their personnel decisions.
Earlier in the season, Diggs had been taking snaps in the Seattle secondary from Nehemiah Pritchett. However, as the coaching staff searches for stability following back-to-back defeats, the former All-Pro was the player removed from the roster to provide flexibility.
Diggs' brief tenure in Seattle followed a turbulent period in his career. After signing a five-year, $97 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys in July 2023, he played in only 22 out of 51 possible regular-season games over the following three seasons due to a series of injuries.
The Cowboys released Diggs late in the 2025 regular season. Following his release by Dallas, the Green Bay Packers claimed him off waivers on December 31. He subsequently signed with the Seahawks in August before his recent departure.
During his time in Dallas, Diggs missed eight games in 2025 due to an at-home accident involving a television falling on his head while attempting to mount it on an outdoor patio. The final parting with the Cowboys occurred after a dispute when Diggs requested to remain in the Washington, D.C., area with his family following a Christmas Day game against the Washington Commanders instead of flying home on the team plane.
His time in Seattle also drew considerable attention for an on-field incident during Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers. During the game, San Francisco wide receiver Mike Evans went viral after a confrontation where Evans asked who he was talking to. "I honestly didn't know it was him… I was like, 'Who are you?' Then I looked and made sure: 'Oh, it's f—in' Diggs," Evans said after the matchup.
For the Seahawks, waiving Diggs provides an open roster spot as management evaluates options to address injuries and improve performance within the division. The team hopes the adjustment will help steady their campaign as they move past the midpoint of the schedule.
