The Toronto Raptors extended their unbeaten start to the season on Friday night, defeating the Washington Wizards 112-102 at Capital One Arena. Scottie Barnes spearheaded the effort for Toronto, recording a double-double with 28 points and 14 rebounds. The victory marked a successful road debut for the Raptors, who relied on a stifling defensive performance to overcome a competitive Washington squad.

Toronto’s defensive intensity proved to be the deciding factor throughout the contest. The team forced 23 turnovers from the Wizards, building on their momentum from Wednesday’s season opener where they forced 27 turnovers against the Chicago Bulls. RJ Barrett contributed 23 points to the winning effort, while Kawhi Leonard added 16 points. The Raptors also dominated the interior, holding an 18-6 advantage on the offensive glass and outscoring Washington 52-32 in the paint.

For the Wizards, the loss served as a reality check following their opening-night win against the Milwaukee Bucks. Trae Young led Washington with 22 points and 12 assists, while Tre Johnson chipped in 20 points. However, the team struggled to maintain offensive consistency, particularly from star acquisition Anthony Davis. After scoring 34 points in his debut, Davis was held to just nine points on 3-of-12 shooting against the Raptors' defensive pressure.

The game began with Toronto establishing an early lead. The Raptors opened with consecutive three-pointers from Barrett and Leonard, eventually building a 17-point advantage during the second quarter. Despite the deficit, Washington managed to mount a comeback attempt in the third quarter. A 9-0 run brought the Wizards within a single point, narrowing the gap to 64-63 following a layup by Bilal Coulibaly.

Toronto responded to the pressure by stabilizing their offense in the final period. A three-pointer from Jamison Battle helped the Raptors maintain a narrow 81-77 lead heading into the fourth quarter. From there, Toronto successfully fended off Washington’s attempts to regain the lead, maintaining a multiple-possession advantage until the final buzzer. The win keeps the Raptors undefeated as they prepare for a Sunday matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Washington faces a quick turnaround as they head into their first back-to-back set of the season. The Wizards are scheduled to play the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. Head coach Brian Keefe will look to integrate his roster further, as the team continues to play without injured players including the No. 1 overall draft pick AJ Dybantsa, who remains sidelined with a rolled ankle.
