A look at Kawhi Leonard's return to Toronto, Keshia Chanté's public statements, and new natural gas storage approvals in Louisiana.
Kawhi Leonard has officially returned to the Toronto Raptors following a complex trade agreement that was delayed by a league investigation. The deal, which involved the Raptors sending Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and multiple draft picks to the Los Angeles Clippers, was finalized this month. Upon his arrival, Leonard addressed the media but declined to answer questions regarding the investigation into salary cap circumvention that resulted in significant penalties for the Clippers organization, including a $30 million fine and the forfeiture of first-round draft picks.
During his first session with reporters in Toronto, Leonard acknowledged the strain of the past few months, stating, "I already was a distraction for the past 70 days." He expressed a desire to move forward and focus on his new team, noting that he had missed minicamp and was eager to integrate with his teammates. While Leonard has accepted responsibility for lapses within his inner circle, he maintained that he had no knowledge of any intent to violate NBA rules. The Raptors are reportedly hopeful that the transition will allow the team to focus on their upcoming season.
In the entertainment sector, Canadian singer Keshia Chanté recently addressed public speculation regarding the paternity of her child. Rumors had circulated on social media suggesting that the father of her baby was the rapper Drake, largely due to fans connecting the artist to Chanté's maternity photo shoot at Casa Loma in Toronto. Chanté appeared on the news channel CP24 to clarify the situation, confirming that the rumors were false.
"He is not the dad," Chanté stated during her interview. "We were talking about it yesterday, like, 'Why is this happening?' I don't know. But no, he's not the dad." She clarified that while she maintains a friendship with Drake, the father of her child is a different public figure working within the music industry. Representatives for Drake had previously denied the speculation, and the artist continues to focus on his recent musical releases.
Meanwhile, in the energy sector, federal regulators have authorized the initial construction of a significant natural gas storage project in southwest Louisiana. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued a limited notice to proceed for the Black Bayou Energy Hub, a project backed by the global energy trader Mercuria. The development, which represents a planned $1.6 billion investment, is located on a 720-acre site in Cameron Parish.
The project, identified in regulatory filings as CP24-494-000, aims to enhance market efficiency by creating underground storage caverns within a subterranean salt dome. According to developers, the facility will connect to 10 major interstate natural gas pipelines, providing a critical buffer for regional industrial manufacturers and liquefied natural gas export plants. Construction on the initial phases, including aboveground buildings and well pads, is now permitted to move forward, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028.
