Private Jet Crashes in Florida Residential Area, Killing All Nine On Board
The Learjet 60 plummeted rapidly into a street near Palm Beach after reporting severe turbulence and icing.
A private jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of all nine people on board. According to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, the Learjet 60 went down near the town of Greenacres, leaving a massive crater in the asphalt and scattering heavy debris.
The aircraft had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading toward North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas before the disaster occurred. The crash site is located not far from Mar-a-Lago, the private residence of US President Donald Trump, who was not present at the property during the incident.
Audio recordings from flight tracking platforms capture the frantic final moments inside the cockpit as the aircraft lost altitude at an alarming rate. According to reports from the air traffic control communications, the crew initially reported moderate turbulence and a light layer of icing that was not causing major concerns.
However, the situation quickly deteriorated when precipitation began and the aircraft needed to climb. The pilot issued a mayday call as the plane descended rapidly, with vertical speed rates escalating from thousands of feet per minute into a steep sixty-degree bank.
In the final seconds before impact, the pilot radioed a desperate warning to air traffic control. "We’re out of time," the pilot shouted in the recording, just moments before the aircraft struck the road vertically.
Governor Ron DeSantis stated during a press conference that despite the devastation, preliminary information indicates no injuries or fatalities occurred on the ground. As a precautionary measure, emergency responders evacuated roughly six hundred residents from a nearby mobile home community.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Authorities have scheduled additional briefings to release further details regarding the victims and the factors that contributed to the sudden loss of altitude.
