The Memphis Grizzlies suffered their first defeat of the NBA season on Monday night, falling 135-134 in an overtime thriller to the New Orleans Pelicans at the FedEx Forum. The loss brought an end to a franchise-matching six-game winning streak to open the campaign, leaving the league with no remaining undefeated teams.

Zion Williamson led the charge for New Orleans with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists, recording his first double-double of the young season. Williamson set the tone in the extra frame by scoring the Pelicans' first nine points, helping his team secure its third consecutive victory after starting the year with four straight losses.

Jeremiah Fears provided the decisive points in overtime by sinking two clutch free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining while taking contact from Jaylen Wells. Fears finished the night with 12 points and seven assists. Head coach Jamahl Mosley praised his squad's composure following the hard-fought road win, stating that the victory was a collective effort.

"We talk about by committee and it definitely was by committee," Mosley said. "These guys did an unbelievable job of finding a way to stay poised."

Despite the loss, Memphis guard Ty Jerome put on a stellar offensive show, pouring in a game-high 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting from the field, alongside five rebounds and five assists. Jerome single-handedly forced overtime by scoring nine unanswered points in the final 1:43 of regulation to erase a nine-point deficit and tie the game at 124.

Jerome kept his momentum going in the extra period by accounting for eight of the Grizzlies' 10 points. However, with the game on the line in the final seconds of overtime, his contested jumper fell short after stellar defense by New Orleans guard Trey Murphy III, who finished the contest with 18 points.

The Pelicans also received major contributions from Karlo Matkovic, who matched Williamson with a career-high 25 points, including five three-pointers. Off the bench, Derik Queen added 20 points and seven rebounds, while Saddiq Bey chipped in 18 points. For Memphis, rookie standout Cameron Boozer recorded 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

The victory was especially notable as the Pelicans played without starting guard Dejounte Murray, who missed his third consecutive game due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will look to regroup following their first setback of the season as they evaluate their rotation and prepare for upcoming matchups.
