Pakistan Secures ODI Tri-Series Victory in Lahore

Pakistan triumphed over Sri Lanka in the 2026 ODI tri-series final in Lahore on Saturday, securing their latest multi-nation cricket trophy. The victory marks a significant milestone for the team, ending a nine-year wait for an ODI tournament victory since their memorable 2017 ICC Champions Trophy campaign.

The path to the final saw mixed performances in the group stage. Pakistan narrowly defeated England by one wicket before suffering an eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka. Despite the group stage setback against the Sri Lankans, both teams advanced to the title clash in Lahore, where Pakistan ultimately prevailed.

Pakistan's last major title at the global level remains the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, which they captured at The Oval in London by defeating India by 180 runs under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed. Following that triumph, the team participated in seven multi-nation ODI tournaments without securing another trophy until now.

With this latest achievement, Pakistan's record stands at 23 outright multi-nation titles, with a notable 13 of those championships having been won in the United Arab Emirates. The nation's history of multi-nation success dates back to the 1985-86 season, when they captured both the John Player Triangular Tournament in Sri Lanka and the Austral-Asia Cup in the UAE.

Over the decades, Pakistan has accumulated success across three primary categories: global and continental events governed by the International Cricket Council and the Asian Cricket Council, multi-nation tri-series and cups, and bilateral series between two nations. At the highest tier, their titles include the 1992 World Cup, the 2000 and 2012 Asia Cups, and the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Tri-series competitions have historically been a strong format for the team, accounting for 16 of their 24 total multi-nation and tri-series titles combined. As the team celebrates their latest home-soil success, cricket fans and analysts look forward to how this momentum might influence upcoming international fixtures.
