Ornella Vanoni's Final Studio Recording of Vasco Rossi's Vivere Released
The posthumous release is accompanied by an artificial intelligence-generated music video and precedes a new live album.
Italian music icon Ornella Vanoni has left behind a final studio recording with her personal interpretation of Vasco Rossi's song "Vivere." The single serves as one of the last tracks recorded in studio by the legendary Milanese interpreter before her passing, offering a poignant and emotional farewell to her listeners.
Upon hearing the track, Vasco Rossi shared his deep emotional reaction on social media. "It gave me chills," he wrote, recalling a formative memory from his high school years when he first heard Vanoni's voice on the radio while crossing a railroad track. "An extremely strong emotion, the kind that stays inside you for the rest of your life," the rocker stated, adding that the experience inspired him to pursue songwriting. "And now she is the one interpreting one of my songs. Another circle that closes... Another magical moment in my life. Long live Ornella Vanoni. A kiss up there."
The newly released single acts as a precursor to an upcoming album titled "VIVERE il mio concerto più bello!," scheduled for release on November 13. The upcoming project compiles 29 tracks recorded during Vanoni's recent performances at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan and the Terme di Caracalla. In addition to the live performances, the album features two studio recordings: the previously released duet "Viva la vita" with Francesco Gabbani, and "Vivere."
The live album features an extensive roster of guest artists joining Vanoni on stage, including Elisa, Mahmood, Emma, Patty Pravo, Fiorella Mannoia, Gigi D'Alessio, Giuliano Sangiorgi, and Calcutta, among others. The physical release will be available in a numbered box set containing three LPs, a 45 RPM record, and a 32-page photographic booklet, as well as a double CD edition featuring photographs and dedications from participating artists.
Alongside the single, a music video directed by Claudio Zagarini and Francesco Siro was released, created entirely with artificial intelligence. The visual project takes viewers through a journey of the singer's life and career, depicting a digitally generated young Ornella walking through central Milan, recording in a studio, performing live, and traveling to Brazil.
The use of artificial intelligence to generate the visual narrative has sparked conversations regarding the future preservation and representation of deceased artists in the music industry. As technology advances, the application of digital likenesses and synthetic media in posthumous releases highlights shifting trends in how entertainment projects may honor legendary performers in the years ahead.
