Orlando Pirates advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout on Tuesday night after recording a decisive 3-0 victory over newly promoted Milford FC at Orlando Stadium. The defending tournament champions controlled the contest and kept their pursuit of back-to-back cup silverware on course, extinguishing any hopes of an upset by the visiting side.

The Buccaneers established their superiority on the score sheet through a clinical attacking performance. Forward Tshepan Moremi led the scoring with two goals to seal a brace, while teammate Thapelo Mokobodi contributed an additional strike to confirm the 3-0 margin. The three unanswered goals ensured a comfortable progression for the Soweto-based powerhouse in front of their home supporters.

Milford FC arrived at Orlando Stadium having enjoyed a solid start to their campaign in the top flight. The club earned promotion to the Betway Premiership through the postseason playoff tournament and had managed to compile twelve points across their first eight league fixtures, lifting them to fifth place in the standings. Their tactical identity had earned praise from former professional defender and coach Tshegofatso Mashego, who noted that Milford plays an expansive, attack-minded brand of soccer characterized by strong passing, continuous running, and a collective work ethic reminiscent of unfancied teams willing to bring a spirited fight.

However, Milford could not replicate that attacking fluency against Pirates, who joined fellow top-flight heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in Tuesday night's winners' circle. Kaizer Chiefs also registered an emphatic 3-0 win against TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium, propelled by a standout hat-trick from Wandile Duba. Across Tshwane at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns had to dig much deeper to claim their own advancement, earning a narrow 1-0 result against Marumo Gallants courtesy of a solitary strike by Siyanda Ndlovu.

Sundowns' tight victory provided welcome relief for the club following their recent disappointment and upset in the CAF Champions League. Similarly, Chiefs' three-goal triumph offered a critical boost in morale and momentum. Amakhosi had endured a difficult sequence of recent results, including the frustration of failing to qualify for the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.

With their respective round-of-16 victories, Pirates, Chiefs, and Sundowns officially joined Siwelele FC, Sekhukhune United, Golden Arrows, and AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout quarterfinals. The eighth and final team will be determined on Wednesday night when Durban City hosts Stellenbosch FC at Chatsworth Stadium. The official draw for the quarterfinal round will take place immediately after the final whistle of that encounter.

Tournament organizers have confirmed that Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns will all be placed into the seeded pot during the quarterfinal drawing process. Consequently, the three perennial title contenders cannot be paired against each other in the upcoming round, ensuring that any head-to-head clash among them will not take place until at least the semifinal stage.

For Orlando Pirates, Tuesday's clean sheet and clinical scoring display serve as optimal preparation for the upcoming Soweto derby against archrivals Kaizer Chiefs this Saturday afternoon. Both sides will enter the rivalry fixture at the Calabash with renewed confidence following their respective 3-0 cup victories. Head coaches Abdeslam Ouaddou and Fernando Da Cruz will guide their teams before a sold-out stadium crowd, while Milford FC turns its attention toward its next league commitment against Golden Arrows at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on October 17.
